Immediately after the start, the division is immensely popular
Two weeks after the start of a new league season, the league footage has been watched more than 2 million times and has reached more than 200,000 young people. In spite of Corona’s changed set-up, the online sports competition has a flying start. This esports competition is
the official EA Sports FIFA 21 league of the Eredivisie in collaboration with DreamHack Sports Games and the 18 Eredivisie clubs.
Full competition eDivise
All 18 Eredivisie clubs have played twelve games so far spread over six rounds of play and a total of 108 games have been played. The ranking is led by Ajax, followed by AZ and FC Groningen. After 17 rounds of play, the ranking list determines who qualifies directly for the final event; the top-4 of the league is guaranteed a place in the eDivision Finals. The number five through 12 compete in a play-off for the remaining four eDivision Finals spots.
In the eDivision Finals the champion scale and a total amount of € 50.000,- is at stake. The players of the two best performing Eredivisie clubs also qualify for E_Oranje, the recently started esports initiative by the KNVB. In addition, three places for the Global Series European Playoffs of Play-ins (the phase preceding the EA SPORTS FIFA World Cup) will be divided among the best players. In the next season, which starts in March, another € 50.000,- is at stake.
Many goals make for spectacle
This season the league is the most goal-rich of all league-seasons so far. In 108 games, no less than 368 goals were scored. With an average of 3.4 goals per match, spectacle is guaranteed. Dani Hagebeuk of Ajax is top scorer of the league with 18 goals. The young talent Levi de Weerd van Vitesse follows with 17 goals.
