Wolcen’s Bloodtrail update is finally here, with new content and a massive rebalance
In a world hungry for that Diablo 4 release date, Wolcen’s 1.0 debut earlier this year made a strong first impression – although a lot of bugs and balance issues made players wonder why it had dropped the Early Access moniker. The devs promised a massive update to help address those early issues, and Chronicle 1: Bloodtrail is finally here.
As the song says, Chronicle 1 is the first in a series of content updates that shifts you to a new economy for a new start. The new story missions will let you participate in Hunts, giving you a new coin for new stuff. You’ll find four new environments in these missions, and three of them are repeatable as endgame content. There are also pets, new monsters and items, and a lot of improvements in the quality of life.
But the biggest deal is the new Balance Pass. Attributes, for example, now offer smaller damage bonuses, but multiply the bonuses of items and other resources. In fact, this means that your building choices matter more, and it won’t just be a matter of inflating your attribute bonuses exponentially.
The numbers are also going down across the board. This does not affect the difficulty of the game – for example, the damage you do and the health of the sample are reduced equally – but the devs hope that this means that the numbers are more readable.
Those are the highlights, but the full list of changes and bug fixes is far too extensive to republish here – you can go to the official site for that. There are plenty of RPG games scratch that itch Diablo these days, so here is the hope that these updates make Wolcen worth returning to.
